2. What Pollutants Are Regulated?

The final NESHAP regulate the total organic HAP content in the materials used in each regulated operation. The final NESHAP do not set limits for individual species of HAP. The HAP emitted by boat manufacturing facilities typically include:
  • Styrene
  • MMA (methyl methacrylate)
  • Toluene
  • Non-compliant container
  • Xylenes
  • Methyl Chloroform (1,1,1-trichloroethane)
  • MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) (now dilisted)
  • n-hexane
  • MIBK (methyl isobutyl ketone)
However, the total organic HAP content limit includes all organic HAP listed in section 112(b) of the CAA.

The US EPA has delisted MEK from the HAP list.
